FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed running back Jonathan Grimes from the Houston Texans’ practice squad.

Grimes was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of William & Mary in May and waived after the preseason before being signed to Houston’s practice squad.

The move Tuesday gives the Jets’ running game some added depth behind starter Shonn Greene and backups Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight.

He left William & Mary as the school’s career leader with 4,541 yards rushing, 7,955 all-purpose yards, 2,289 kickoff return yards and 936 rushing attempts. Grimes also earned 11 all-conference honors during his career, the most in Colonial Athletic Association history.
