Purdue making strong push with better defense

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue coach Danny Hope says his defense has more depth on the defensive line and in the secondary than any team’s been around.

He’s not yet ready to call it the best defense he’s had.

But the Boilermakers (2-1) are certainly making their case.

After three games Purdue is allowing the second-fewest points per game (14.0) in the Big Ten and has the No. 2 overall defense (293.0). Only defending Legends Division champion Michigan State is ranked ahead of the Boilermakers.

Purdue is receiving votes in the Top 25, and if they keep it up Saturday against Marshall and the nation’s No. 1 ranked passing offense, maybe the outsiders will start believing, too.
