ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for his actions at the end of the team’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Shanahan was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct for berating officials in the final seconds of the Redskins’ 38-31 loss Sunday. He also confronted an official in a stadium tunnel after the game.
The son of head coach Mike Shanahan explained his actions in a statement on Monday, saying he was upset that officials were about to misapply the 10-second runoff rule and not allow the Redskins a chance to run a final play. He vowed to handle such situations better in the future.
The NFL is using replacement officials after locking out the regular officials in a labor dispute.
