Published: September 27, 2012, 5:00pm
  1. Fact: Since the year I was born, the U.S. population has more than tripled.

  2. Fact: A story in The Columbian stated some people born today will live almost twice as long as I have.

  3. Opinion: Studies in genetics suggest that many diseases will be prevented or curable in the not-so-distant future.

  4. Conclusion: Within the lifetimes of many — if not most — people now living, we could see the population triple many more than three times.

  • Estimate: 40 percent of the food we purchase is not consumed.

  • Estimate: Some 15 million children go to school hungry every day.

  • Conclusion: (Expletive!)

  • Query: See any brontosaurs in the room?
