BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Michael Chaney gave Southeastern Louisiana an early 6-0 lead and the Lions never looked back, defeating Lamar 31-21 on its own home turf Saturday.
Trailing 31-14 early in the fourth quarter, Lamar’s Tyru McGlothen made things interesting after he picked off a Nathan Stanley pass and returned it 96-yards for a touchdown with 6:58 to go. After the extra point by Justin Stout, the Cardinals trailed 31-21.
Lamar (2-3) had two more chances on offense in the remaining minutes but was unable to score.
Chaney ended the game with 18 carries for 49 yards and two scores for Southeastern Louisiana (2-3) while Stanley was 15 of 28 for 187 yards and one touchdown to go along with his two interceptions.
For Lamar, Ry Rossakowski completed 20 of 35 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns but the Lions defense recorded three sacks and intercepted him four times.
