RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Taylor Heinicke threw two touchdowns and rushed for another — all in the first half — as Old Dominion defeated Richmond 45-37 Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.

After a John Laub touchdown pass to Ben Edward’s tied the game at 7-7, Heinicke ran one in from 5 yards out to put the Monarch’s back on top for good.

Heinicke, who set NCAA records for total offense and passing yards in a game in the Monarch’s 64-61 win over New Hampshire last week, finished with 360 yards on 32-of-42 passing. His 1-yarder to Marquel Thomas gave Old Dominion (5-0, 1-0) a 31-14 lead.

The sophomore now has 2,281 passing yards this season after posting 2,385 passing yards all of last season.

Laud led Richmond (3-2, 1-1) with 339 yards through the air and two touchdowns, however, the Spiders struggled on the ground, recording just 52 yards on 25 attempts.
