Seattle Fourth of July fireworks show fizzles out

SEATTLE — Organizers say a popular Fourth of July fireworks show in Seattle won’t happen this year because they haven’t been able to raise enough money.

The producer, One Reel, told KING on Monday that can’t move forward with the funds it has now.

The Family 4th at Lake Union show costs about $500,000.

One Reel executive director John Stone said it has been trying to raise the money for months and made a strong push in March with a public fundraising drive.

For years the show was watched by hundreds of thousands of people around Lake Union or viewing on TV.

Corporate sponsorship ended in 2010. Other businesses and individuals raised the needed money the last three years. That didn’t happen this year.
