ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins are bringing back Rex Grossman and giving Pat White another chance at the NFL.
Grossman agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Redskins on Wednesday. White also agreed to sign with Washington, giving the team a mobile quarterback to help run practices while Robert Griffin III recovers from a serious knee injury.
Grossman has played nine NFL seasons and once took the Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl, but he again is projected to be the third-stringer behind Griffin and Kirk Cousins.
Griffin had reconstructive surgery on his right knee in January. Cousins is expected to work as the starter during offseason practices, but White can better simulate Griffin’s speed and running ability.
White last played in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins in 2009.
