SALEM, Ore. (AP) — USA Track & Field says Eugene, Ore., will host the 2016 U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

Chief executive Max Siegel announced the decision Thursday at the Oregon state Capitol. This will be the sixth time Eugene has played host to the Olympic track trials. It hosted the trials previously in 1972, 1976, 1980, 2008 and 2012.

Gov. John Kitzhaber accepted the offer to host the trials.

U.S. athletes compete at the trials for a spot on Team USA. The 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro from Aug. 5 to 21.
