WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has congratulated coach Geno Auriemma (aw-ree-EH’-muh) and the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team on winning their eighth NCAA championship.

The White House says that in a telephone call Wednesday, Obama commended the Huskies for their extraordinary season and their run in the tournament. The Huskies defeated Louisville 93-60 on Tuesday night to claim the championship.

The president also asked the coach to relay his congratulations to Breanna Stewart, who was named most outstanding player of the Final Four.

Obama said he looks forward to honoring the team at the White House.
