PITTSBURGH (AP) — Right-handed reliever Bryan Morris was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pittsburgh Pirates before Friday night’s game with the Cincinnati Reds and fellow righty Chris Leroux was designated for assignment.

Leroux had a 6.75 ERA in two relief appearances this season, allowing three runs and four hits in three innings with six walks and three strikeouts. He can opt for free agency if he clears waivers rather than accept an assignment to Indianapolis.

“We’re not to the point in the season yet where we can use our relievers three days in a row and Chris wasn’t able to give us innings, which essentially meant we were a man short in the bullpen and had to make a move,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.

Morris did not allow a run or a hit in three innings in two appearances with Indianapolis. He made his major-league debut with Pittsburgh last September and had a 1.80 ERA in five games.
