WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue coach Darrell Hazell spent Saturday afternoon taking notes as Team Black defeated Team Gold 14-0 in Saturday’s annual spring football game.

For the Boilermakers head coach, it was an opportunity to learn a little more about his new team. He was hired in December to replace the fired Danny Hope.

What he found is that Purdue needs to improve dramatically between now and the Aug. 31 season opener at Cincinnati.

Akeem Hunt scored on a 15-yard TD run at the end of the first quarter, and Rob Henry threw an 8-yard TD pass to Shane Mikesky midway through the second quarter for the only scores of the day. Otherwise, Hazell witnessed too many missed chances, too many turnovers and too many penalties.
