A Gresham woman who reported her 6-year-old daughter missing is now facing criminal charges after authorities found the girl hours later, safe with her mother.

Gresham police say Sara Lea Edmond, 30, is in custody on charges including criminal mistreatment, child neglect, custodial interference and filing a false report. Her arraignment is set for Monday.

Edmond reported her daughter missing at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, saying the girl, Carmen Alexandria Welch, had not arrived at a friend’s house as planned. The search widened to include multiple law enforcement agencies.

Detectives tracked the girl to a motel early Sunday and found her inside with her mother. The girl was safe and unharmed and has been reunited with her father.

Police say the incident may be related to a custody dispute between Edmond and the girl’s father.
