ATLANTA (AP) — The Braves have placed infielder Blake DeWitt on the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-hander David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett.

DeWitt has lower back soreness, an injury that limited him to just 48 games last season between the major leagues and minor leagues in the Chicago Cubs’ organization. He is 1 for 3 in four games for Atlanta after beginning the season with Gwinnett.

Carpenter was in uniform for Saturday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after going 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA in four relief appearances with Gwinnett.

In 2011-12, Carpenter pitched in 67 games with Houston and Toronto. He was converted from a catcher to a pitcher in 2009 while in St. Louis’ farm system.
