Letter: We’re making a mess of the Earth

Chris Brong’s praise for Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s poor environmental performance (9 percent) is a typical reaction from those who believe their God gave them the Earth as their private park to do with as they please (“Low score is a badge of honor,” April 11).

Being typical self-centered humans, they have chosen to use the park as a dumping ground for their garbage. So what if it stinks, looks ugly and is dangerous to live around; it’s our park (they really mean “my” park). God has given his permission. They also seem to think that their kids prefer this declining environment for their future home. If your kids disagree, now is the time to speak up.

Rep. Herrera Beutler is probably more concerned about the environment than her record indicates. She just hasn’t figured out how to stand up to the noisy old fools yet. I’m an old fool who can see what we’ve done — the mess we are leaving behind — and I’m ashamed.
