ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — UNC Asheville has promoted assistant coach Nicholas McDevitt to head coach of the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball program.

Athletic director Janet Cone announced Friday that McDevitt is the permanent replacement for Eddie Biedenbach.

McDevitt had been running the program since Biedenbach stepped down earlier this month to take a job on UNC Wilmington’s coaching staff.

He spent 12 seasons on the staff and was promoted to associate head coach before the 2011-12 season.

McDevitt played for the Bulldogs from 1997-2001 before becoming part of a coaching staff that under Biedenbach won three Big South tournament titles and reached three NCAA tournaments, including two straight from 2011-12.
