Alder Creek’s Spring Paddle Festival this weekend put newcomers to water sports into kayaks and canoes. About 100 boats plied Vancouver Lake on Saturday as part of the 21st annual event. Participants had an opportunity to learn about proper paddling, gearing up for multi-day kayak trips, repairing boats and paddling with kids.

Today, disabled veterans get a chance to paddle, thanks to a joint demonstration by several water sports groups. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
