NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Lavar Edwards may have only been a part-time player at LSU, but the Tennessee Titans believe the defensive end has enough talent to make him worth a fifth-round pick.

The Titans selected Edwards on Saturday with the 142nd overall pick in the NFL draft. The Titans waited until the fifth round before taking a defensive lineman, a position of need for a team that allowed a league-high 29.4 points per game.

Edwards started only 15 of his 52 career games at LSU and made 96 tackles, with 24 of them coming behind the line of scrimmage. He recorded 4 12 sacks last season and earned a Senior Bowl invitation.

The Titans hope he can boost a defense that gave up 471 points last season, the most in franchise history.
