ELMA, N.Y. (AP) — Western New York Flash forward Abby Wambach has been cleared to play after missing her team’s National Women’s Soccer League’s home-opener due to a head injury last weekend

The Flash (0-2-1) announced Monday that Wambach is set to take the field Wednesday night, when the team hosts Sky Blue FC.

The U.S. national team star was held out for precautionary reasons against Boston on Saturday. Wambach was hurt a week earlier when she was struck in the back of the head by a ball. She kept playing during the second half of a 1-1 tie at Washington.

The game will be a homecoming for Wambach. She is from Rochester, where the Flash play.
