PHOENIX (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have placed left-hander Jose Mijares on bereavement leave and recalled right-hander Sandy Rosario from Triple-A Fresno.

Mijares flew to Venezuela on Monday after his grandmother died of a heart attack last weekend. He was raised by her after his parents were killed in a car crash.

Mijares has a 2.57 ERA in 10 games for the Giants this season. He can be on the bereavement list from three to seven days.

Rosario had 17 strikeouts and a 3.29 ERA at Fresno in 13 2-3 innings.
