The Mount St. Helens Institute this week introduced Richard Meyer as its new executive director, beginning Thursday. Meyer takes over for Travis Southworth-Neumeyer, who left in May to join Trackers Earth, an organization that coordinates outdoor programs out of Portland and elsewhere.

Meyer brings a master’s degree in regional and city planning and experience in nonprofit management, according to the Mount St. Helens Institute. That includes six years as executive director of the Portland Audubon Society, according to the institute, and earlier stints leading the Association of Oregon Community Development Organizations and the Burnside Community Council in Portland.

The Mount St. Helens Institute is an Amboy-based nonprofit group formed in 1996.
