PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills president Russ Brandon says the team will take another run at signing safety Jairus Byrd to a long-term contract next offseason despite failing to do so this year.

In an interview with The Associated Press on Monday, Brandon described the chances of reaching a multiyear deal as being “absolutely” realistic even though Byrd and the team are at a stalemate in talks. The two-time Pro Bowl selection remains unsigned, and it’s unclear when he’ll report by accepting the team’s one-year, $6.9 million contract offer.

The Bills prevented Byrd from testing free agency in March by designating him their franchise player.

Byrd is limited to signing a one-year contract through the end of this season after the two sides missed a July 15 deadline to negotiate a long-term deal.
