SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks says there’s no apology necessary for his off-the-field behavior this summer, because his teammates know he is ready to move forward and focus on football.

He called it “a distraction to the team.”

Brooks spoke publicly for the first time Thursday night since the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office investigated allegations that Brooks repeatedly hit a teammate on the head with a beer bottle in a June incident. No assault charges were filed because of insufficient evidence.

According to police, Brooks hit teammate Lamar Divens with the bottle three times and then punched him in the face during an early morning argument June 8. Divens sustained a 3-inch cut on his forehead.
