Browns RB Montario Hardesty injured in practice

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns running back Montario Hardesty has injured his right hand in practice.

Hardesty jumped to catch a direct snap from center during 11 on 11 drills and appeared to hurt either his hand or thumb on Monday. A trainer put a large wrap on Hardesty’s hand, and the 26-year-old stayed on the field watching drills before he was escorted to the locker room for treatment and presumably X-rays.

Hardesty has been slowed in training camp by a hamstring injury. He did not play in Thursday’s exhibition opener and the former second-round pick’s roster spot is in jeopardy.

He rushed for 271 yards and one touchdown in 12 games last season.

The arrival of versatile back Dion Lewis has hurt Hardesty’s chances of making Cleveland’s roster, and any injury could make it even tougher on him.
