TIGARD, Ore. (AP) — Police in the Portland suburb of Tigard have issued a citation to a Portland man, accusing him of leaving his young child alone in a parked car on a warm day.

Lt. Rick Rhodes said a witness had already pushed down the car window, unlocked the door and removed the child by the time police arrived at the car parked outside a home improvement store.

The Oregonian reports that paramedics checked the condition of the child, who was unharmed.

Police spokesman Jim Wolf said the child appeared to be less than a year old.

Portland’s high temperature Monday was 79 degrees.

Wolf says the 34-year-old father soon arrived to claim the child and was cited for child neglect. The case was referred to the state’s Department of Human Services.
