Battle Ground — A group of people with cerebral palsy learned the joys of fishing at an angling event in July at the Bonneville Fish Hatchery in Oregon. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon, Catch a Special Thrill (CAST) for Kids Foundation and others sponsored the July 26 event that taught 39 people from Clark County and the surrounding areas to fish. With the help of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Amanda Fortin, participants dipped their poles into a pond at the hatchery that was prestocked with fish. There were many catches that day. A boy named Jacob had a streak of bad luck until something bit his hook. “I worked for an hour with him trying to catch a fish, and wouldn’t you know that as soon as I took a break, he caught a fish,” said Fortin, a Battle Ground resident, in an email.
