Sporting News did a question-and-answer interview with Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies.

Among his answers:

• Derek Jeter is his idol for his consistent play year after year. Tulowitzki has participated in a couple of Jeter’s camps in Denver and calls the Yankee “down to earth, does it the right way.”

• Dodger Stadium is his favorite field outside of Coors Field. Los Angeles has great weather, the park has “a ton of history” and the grounds crew does a superb job grooming the infield.

• If baseball expands, Tulo hopes the new city is Las Vegas.

Tennessee head coach Mike Munchak is putting himself and his coaching staff in a dangerous position, according to bleacherreport.com. They are potentially putting their careers with the Titans in the hands of a third-year quarterback who hasn’t shown the confidence that he can win in the league with his arm.

From the standpoint of ex-Washington QB Jake Locker, there are no excuses not to perform. The additions of Chance Warmack and Andy Levitre not only will improve his pass protection, but also improve the running lanes for Chris Johnson.

Our weekly check of the Portland Timbers finds the team at No. 4 in the Major League Soccer power rankings. The Sounders are at No. 9 in most rankings now that the Clint Dempsey era is under way in Seattle.

The Timbers have a busy schedule in the remainder of August starting with a game versus FC Dallas on Saturday, two games with No. 1-ranked Real Salt Lake and a trip to Seattle.

Portland has 12 games left on a schedule that ends Oct. 26 in California against Chivas USA. The Timbers play Real Salt Lake a third time on Oct. 19.
