OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Favored Last Gunfighter wore down San Pablo in the stretch and won by a head Sunday in the $148,500 Phillip H. Iselin Stakes at Monmouth Park.
Ridden by Joe Bravo, Last Gunfighter covered the 1 1/8 mile race for 3-year-olds and up in 1:52.03. The 4-year-old has won seven of eight races since joining the barn of trainer Chad Brown last year.
Last Gunfighter paid $3.60, $2.20 and $2.10 in winning for the fourth time in five starts this year. San Pablo returned $2.80 and $2.40, while Jaguar Paw finished third in the field of five and paid $2.80 to show.
Bravo had a good weekend, also guiding Big Blue Kitten to victory in the $600,000 Sword Dancer at Saratoga on Saturday. This was his first ride with Last Gunfighter.
