Letter: A bridge was all we wanted

The Columbian

I don’t want to speak for anyone but myself, but I will assume that I’m not alone in saying that Vancouver just wanted a new bridge (not light rail). Years later, it’s cost almost $200 million of taxpayer money for Columbia River Crossing planning. Common sense tells me that one of the first things that should have been set in stone was the height of the bridge. They want to keep spending our tax dollars on something that as of now won’t be allowed at the proposed height.

They say that light rail is not a local voting issue — perhaps unless they plan on building it to Olympia. It is a local issue; it stops here.

Oregon said it will proceed without Washington’s money and of course with light rail. Is Oregon the boss of us?

The CRC planning commission can blame themselves for the loss of jobs. Not any senators, legislators, just poor planning. Maybe the planners know what they are doing? Lower the bridge, then use the taxpayer money to get rid of the manufacturing on the east side of the bridge. The CRC needs to have a complete investigation.
