Letter: One project gouges road funds

Road work done on Northeast 137th and 138th avenues has both confused me and caused me to question the wisdom of the work being done. I was led to believe that the purpose was to widen the road to accommodate two lanes each direction going north and south between Northeast 28th and 49th streets. If that was the intent, it has failed.

The circle north of 28th Street is so narrow that two cars will not fit, slowing down all cars as we approach and navigate this first northbound traffic circle. As there is no street that exits east-west at that junction in the road, why was a circle required? Those of us living on Northeast 136th and 135th avenues wishing to turn west on 36th Street now have to go up to 39th Street, turn around, and go back to get into our streets.

I question the expense of the extreme rock work done on these traffic circles and the sound barrier walls. We have much-needed road work in our city and county and yet I imagine millions of dollars went into this one project, whose benefits are not obvious to most of us in this neighborhood.

I think it has been a huge misuse of our funds and an example of poor judgment.
