METAIRIE, La. (AP) — When New Orleans opens the regular season against Atlanta, it is likely that both of the Saints’ starting outside linebackers, as well as their top reserve for that position, will take the field without having played a preseason snap in coordinator Rob Ryan’s new defense.

Following Will Smith’s season-ending knee injury, the Saints have brought in reinforcements through a trade with San Francisco for Parys Haralson. He was due to have a physical Tuesday night, but coach Sean Payton says Haralson probably won’t play in New Orleans’ preseason finale in Miami on Thursday night.

Junior Galette, who has a leg injury, and Martez Wilson, who dislocated his elbow, will compete with Haralson for two starting jobs, but have not played this preseason and are unlikely to play in Miami.
