East Tennessee State outlasts Austin Peay 80-74

CLARKESVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A.J. Merriweather had 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Rashawn Rembert and Jalen Riley each contributed 18 points to lead East Tennessee State past Austin Peay 80-74 Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers (4-5) broke a late tie in the first half, closing with a 21-10 run to take a 44-33 lead at the break. Riley sparked the run with seven points, while Merriweather added two layups.

Austin Peay (4-4) surged back into the game with an 11-0 run, and Travis Betran sank a 3-pointer to reclaim the lead with 4:52 remaining.

Rembert responded with a 3-pointer, a jumper and a layup to make the score 75-69. After a Zavion Williams jumper, Betran hit a trey again to close the gap to one with 1:19 remaining, but couldn’t connect on another following two free throws from Rembert.

Betran scored 20 points for the Governors and Chris Horton had 13 with nine boards.
