Vancouver police say early-morning burglaries are on the rise in the city’s west side. Burglars are entering homes in the Arnada, Shumway and Carter Park neighborhoods through unlocked doors and windows in the backyard.

Six burglaries between Oct. 26 and Nov. 26 occurred between 2 and 5:30 a.m. while people were at home, some with dogs in the house. Stolen items include laptops and information that can be used to commit identity theft.

Officers advise people to lock all windows and doors, and leave exterior lighting on at night to curb burglaries.
