PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Elana Meyers and Aja Evans have won a women’s World Cup bobsled race, the first time an American sled has prevailed on the circuit in nearly three years.

Meyers and Evans finished two runs at the 2002 Olympic track in 1 minute, 37.67 seconds. They beat the sled piloted by Olympic gold-medal favorite Kaillie Humphries of Canada by 0.13 seconds. Jamie Greubel and Katie Eberling of the U.S. were third, another 0.06 seconds back.

The last U.S. women’s team to win a World Cup race was Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming, who prevailed in Igls, Austria, in January 2011.

It’s the second straight race where Humphries, Meyers and Greubel have driven to the top three spots. No sled from the powerful German team has a World Cup medal yet this season.
