Rider defeats Monmouth (NJ) 89-83

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Anthony Myles scored a career-high 28 points, Daniel Stewart added 21 and Rider held on to defeat Monmouth (NJ) 89-83 in the conference opener for both schools Thursday night.

Rider (2-4, 1-0 Metro Atlantic) led by as many as 11 points early in the second half before Monmouth tied the score at 58 on an 18-7 run. Rider regained the lead, 61-60 when Jimmie Taylor hit a 3-point shot with 8:13 remaining. The Broncs would score its next 14 points from the line, four straight from Myles followed by 10 in a row from Stewart.

Monmouth (3-5, 0-1) answered with three-straight 3-pointers, two from Max DiLeo and one from Josh James, to put the Hawks within three points, 73-70.

Rider finished on a 16-13 run, with ten points coming from the line.

Deon Jones scored 24 points to lead Monmouth. Justin Robinson added 19 points and a game-high five assists.
