HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Reggie Price scored 10 of his career-high 16 points in the first half and Hampton never trailed in an 85-52 win over Bethune-Cookman Monday night.
Brian Darden hit three 3-point shots in the game’s first 3:07 as Hampton (5-5, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back.
Daquan Brown’s layup with 10:32 left in the first half pulled Bethune-Cookman (2-10, 0-2) within four, 14-10, but the Pirates scored 20 of the next 22 points and went into halftime leading 47-25.
Lawrence Cooks lead all scorers with 17 points, also a career-high, for Hampton. Du’Vaughn Maxwell added 12 points and Deron Powers had 11. Maxwell blocked seven shots.
Bethune-Cookman, losers of eight straight, hit 16 of 59 (27.1 percent) field goals and 3 of 18 (16.7 percent) 3-point shots. The Pirates pulled down a season-high 25 offensive rebounds but managed just 16 second chance points.
