The Port of Kalama will invest $5.9 million in rail expansion that, combined with an investment by port tenant Temco LLC, will double rail capacity at the Temco site, the port’s board of commissioners decided this week. The project was awarded to Chehalis-based Railworks Corporation for construction beginning on Jan. 7 and scheduled for completion by June.

The project consists of the construction of lead and yard tracks, associated grading and drainage improvements, as well as utility relocations, the port said in a news release. The work will include installation of 3.6 miles of new track and relocation of 1.1 miles of track.

The port did not disclose the size of Temco’s financial contribution.
