Russia wins biathlon World Cup relay

ANNECY, France (AP) — Anton Shipulin outsprinted Simon Schempp to lead Russia to victory in the men’s 4×7.5-kilometer relay at a biathlon World Cup event Friday.

The team of Ivan Tcherezov, Alexander Loginov, Evgeniy Garanichev and Shipulin missed five targets and avoided penalty loops to complete the race in 1 hour, 14 minutes, 1.8 seconds, beating Germany by 0.3 second and Austria by 26.8. Sweden took fourth place and Norway placed fifth.

Erik Lesser gave Germany the lead in the opening leg before Andreas Birnbacher and Arnd Peiffer extended the lead to 14.4 and 21.5 seconds, respectively.

Shipulin shot cleanly in the last leg to catch up with Schempp, who missed a target.
