Vella Jackson and Moriah Doyle each had 16 points to lead Evergreen at the Grant Tournament in Portland.

Lexi Burney had 11 rebounds and Jackson added 10 for the Plainsmen, which improved to 6-0.

Evergreen built a 13-point lead late the second half. Lakeridge scored nine points in the final 55 seconds to cut the final margin.

“This is a nice gratifying win,” Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said. “It allows us to see where we are as a team.”

Foreman singled out the play of freshman point guard Triann Thompson, who had nine assists. He said his team hadn’t faced a full-court press like Lakeridge showed.

“We didn’t start out well against their press,” Foreman said. “But we handled it well in the second half. We grew tonight.”

Evergreen continues tournament play against Aloha on Saturday.
