ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Brandon Morris scored a career-high 17 points in his first start at point guard, leading Georgia to an 84-75 win over Lipscomb Saturday.

Morris and walk-on Taylor Echols split time at point in place of Georgia’s leading scorer Charles Mann, who sat out with a sore knee.

Georgia (4-4) got 15 points from Namanja Djurisic and 14 from Dante Williams.

Martin Smith led Lipscomb (4-6) with 23 points. Khion Sankey and J.C. Hampton added 13 points apiece.

A 9-0 burst sparked by a layup and two free throws from Morris put the Bulldogs up 54-35 with 14:19 to play.

Lipscomb cut their deficit to four with a 16-3 rally, fueled by a trio of 3-pointers and four free throws from Smith.

The Bison couldn’t pull any closer, making only one field goal over the next four minutes as Georgia went up 71-62 on Morris’s driving layup with 4:05 to go.
