A big second half effort helped lift the Clark College men’s basketball team to a 102-92 victory over Columbia Basin on Saturday at the O’Connell Center.

Collin Spickerman led Clark (4-1) with 33 points on 13 of 20 shooting, and 10 rebounds. Sean Price added 22 points, Kyle Thurston 14 and Max Livingston 12.

Clark trailed 48-39 at halftime.

“Our guys are still learning what it means to play at the start,” Clark coach Alex Kirk said. “It was a physical battle. We came out flat and they jumped all over us.”

Kirk said Ronalds Elksnis helped keep the Penguins in the game in the first half with a solid effort. He finished with eight points and nine rebounds.”Without him, it would have been a different ball game,” Kirk said. The change came when the Penguins began to get defensive stops in the second half.

The Penguins held the advantage in rebounds (37-19) and assists (18-14).

In its last three victories, Clark has averaged 96.3 points.

Columbia Basin (2-4) was led by Mitchell Zapien’s 21 points.
