FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Brett Comer went 8 for 10 from the field, scored 18 points and helped propel Florida Gulf Coast to an 83-51 rout over Samford on Saturday.

Bernard Thompson contributed 15 points, Nate Hicks added 12 and Chase Fieler had 11, making it a double-double with 10 rebounds, as FGCU (5-4) snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Eagles took control midway through the first half with a 19-2 blast sparked by a 3-pointer from Filip Cvjeticanin, then continued to build a lead that would never be challenged. They took a 38-24 advantage into the break and put the game away in the second half by outscoring the Bulldogs 45-27.

Samford (4-8) was paced by Tyler Hood, who scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.

FGCU’s Thompson is just six points shy of reaching 1,000 career points, and Marcus Blake hauled in a career-high seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
