JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville’s Cecil Shorts’ best season as a pass receiver could likely be coming to a premature end.
Shorts’ groin injury prevented him from playing in Sunday’s 27-20 Jaguars loss to Buffalo, and could cause him to miss the team’s final two games against Tennessee and Indianapolis.
Shorts, who has a career-best 66 catches this season, said Monday that shutting down for the remainder of the season now was “probably the best thing to do.”
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley says he and general manager Dave Caldwell will meet with Shorts later Monday, or on Tuesday, to make a determination on the wide receiver’s status.
Shorts is just one of four starters who missed Sunday’s game against the Bills. Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring), Johnathan Cyprien (thigh) and Will Rackley (concussion) were also sidelined.
