Albany (NY) beats Yale 70-62

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (AP) — D.J. Evans scored 14 points with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Albany (NY) to a 70-62 victory over Yale on Friday night.

John Puk and Peter Hooley each posted 13 points. Hooley sank 6 of 6 free throws to help the Great Danes (6-5) average 76.2 percent from the line.

Both teams started slowly with Yale’s first points coming on a 3-point jumper by Javier Duren over four minutes into the first period. Albany hit 48 percent from the field in the first to lead by three at the break, 25-22.

Leading 62-58 with just under a minute left to play, the Great Danes went 8 of 10 from the line to finish with an eight-point advantage.

The Bulldogs (5-6) sank just 31.6 percent from the field overall. Lead scorer Duren had 26 points, two steals and a block.
