AP Source: Twins agree to deal with Kurt Suzuki

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press the Minnesota Twins and catcher Kurt Suzuki have agreed to a $2.75 million, one-year contract.

The deal was reached on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Suzuki has to pass a physical before the contract can be signed.

The Twins were in the market for a veteran catcher after announcing last month that Joe Mauer was moving from behind the plate to first base. Mauer is making the move to try to limit injuries after he suffered a concussion last season.

The 30-year-old Suzuki hit .232 with five homers and 32 RBIs for the Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics last season. He also will serve as a mentor to promising prospect Josmil Pinto.
