SEATTLE (AP) — Whatever the result in the final, it’s already been a special postseason run for 12th-seeded Wisconsin.
They are the lowest seed to ever make the NCAA volleyball tournament championship match after their stunning upset of No. 1 seed and defending national champion Texas in the semifinals. The Badgers (28-9) are proving that even a team without overwhelming size up front can still have success in the NCAAs.
But to cap their run means solving No 2. seed Penn State (33-2) in Saturday night’s championship match. It’s a matchup of Big Ten foes that’s been completely one-sided in favor of the Nittany Lions. Penn State has won 19 of the past 21 matches against the Badgers, including a pair of 3-0 wins this season. The Nittany Lions are seeking their sixth NCAA title and fifth since 2007.
