Letter: Faith in justice evident in results

Published: December 18, 2013, 4:00pm

I have sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee advising him of my intention to resign as a judge from Division 2 of the Washington State Court of Appeals effective Feb. 28. I’ve been a state court judge since 1976 and am currently the longest-serving judge in the state.

When my fourth grandchild was born, I started thinking about moving on, and with my fifth just arrived, I have made up my mind.

People complain about individual cases they hear or read about, but in my 37 years of experience, what I see in the vast majority of cases is competent lawyers, jurors and judges and results that make sense. It is the aberrations that get attention, while many thousands of well-decided cases flow by unnoticed.

In Southwest Washington, people should be proud of their local courts. Go and watch a session and you will see what I mean.
