San Jose State squeaks past Westminster 73-66

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Chris Cunningham scored 18 points and added 11 rebounds as San Jose pushed past NAIA Westminster (Utah) in the final minutes to win 73-66 on Saturday.

Cunningham made a layup in an 8-1 run that cut the Spartans deficit to four, then sparked a decisive 12-2 run that gave them the lead. A 3-pointer by Devante Wilson sealed the run and put San Jose State up by two (66-64) with just 1:17 left. The Spartans (5-6) trailed by as many as 12 points from 7 minutes into the first half.

Jaleel Williams added 18 points and six boards, and Wilson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Westminster (Utah) had three players score in double figures — Tallon Robertson with 18 points, Blake Skidmore 16 and Colton Moon 13. The Griffins (8-6) committed 24 fouls and gave up 25 points at the free throw line.
