Jacksonville shuts down South Carolina State 61-47

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Vince Martin had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists on Monday night to lead Jacksonville over South Carolina State 61-47.

Jacksonville (4-7) was only 18 of 31 from the free-throw line but made its last 10 free throws in the final 4 minutes.

Jordan Smith missed a 3-pointer for SC State with 4:29 left that would have tied the game. Vince Martin immediately followed with 3-pointer on the other end that put Jacksonville up 49-43 and started a 15-4 run by the Dolphins to end the game.

Jarvis Haywood had 18 points and Javon Dawson grabbed 13 rebounds for the Dolphins, who jumped ahead 25-10. JU held the Bulldogs to 26.9 percent shooting in the first half and limited SCSU’s top scoring threat, Matthew Hezekiah, to only two first-half points.

Adama Adams led the Bulldogs (3-8) with 13 points and Hezekiah finished with 10.
