Pedestrian hit by MAX train dies

PORTLAND — A pedestrian hit by a light-rail train in Southeast Portland on Sunday has died.

The Oregonian reports crews had to lift the train off the man to free him.

Portland police said he died Sunday evening at the hospital.

He was identified as 48-year-old Phu Van Nguyen.

Authorities said they believe he walked or ran in front of a southbound train as it was approaching a station. An investigation is underway.
